Take Your Training to The Next Level (3 Tips)
You are either unhappy with your current progress, or you're crushing it and are just curious to know how eek out every bit of progress that you can.
Either way, if you were hoping this article was going to be filled with catchy bio-hacks and hidden gems, then I'm sorry to let you down.
Some of those things may "move the needle" slightly, but the biggest movers are usually going to be the simplest ones.
Here are 3 tips to make your current program more effective...
1) Keep Track of Your Fitness
Reps, sets, weight, how it felt.... all of these things are variables that you can manipulate from week-to-week to create progress. But you ain't manipulation sh*t 💩 if you don't keep track.
Simply use a notes app or an actual note pad, and write down what you do in the gym. This way you can look back next time and use that info to make decisions about how much to lift, or how many reps to do.
2) Appreciate the "plateaus"
We all want to see/feel continuous progress. Increasing the weight, adding reps, a quicker time - we get so caught up in chasing these things that we lose sight of what is actually happening inside our body.
Strength and/or improved performance occurs because changes at a cellular/tissue/chemical level. That takes time. Sometimes it means that you use the same weights for 3 weeks in a row, but it *feels* easier each week. That because the body is growing/changing. That is progress. Appreciate it, and this process will be much more enjoyable/motivating.
3) Recover harder.
Yup - we're talking about recovery. How can you expect your body to push hard, and perform well if you're not resting and refueling properly? I'm not going to tell you that you need X number of rest days or X hours of sleep, because it depends on the person.
Take this as a friendly reminder that you need to be eating enough, sleeping enough, drinking enough water, and maybe spending some time doing some light non-gym movement. If you aren't recovering well that you're wasting some of your efforts in the gym.
